Tiger Woods' Son Charlie to Play in 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur After Winning Playoff

Golf legend Tiger Woods won the U.S. Junior Amateur three straight times before he dominated the PGA Tour, and his son is now trying to follow in his footsteps.

The Associated Press noted Charlie Woods, 16, qualified for this year's U.S. Junior Amateur by winning a three-way playoff Thursday during the Eagle Trace Golf Club qualifier in Florida. It will mark the second straight year he competes in the event.

There was plenty of drama in the qualifier.

Cameron Jourdan of Golfweek noted five spots were up for grabs at Eagle Trace Golf Club, and Woods' bogey on his final hole dropped him into a tie for fifth with two other competitors. With the final spot on the line, the son of one of the greatest golfers in the sport's history delivered.

Arth Sinha, Lucas Gimenez, Sohan Patel and Wylie Inman were the other four from the qualifier to advance to the U.S. Junior Amateur.

Woods will be looking for a better showing than last year.

The U.S. Junior Amateur features 36 holes of stroke play for 264 players as a sort of qualifying process at the start, and the top 64 players then advance to match play. Woods fell short of reaching match play in last year's event when he turned in rounds of 82 and 80.

But he has momentum on his side this time around, as he tallied his first American Junior Golf Association victory last month at the AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational in Florida.

While he has a long way to go to match his father's 15 majors, he can accomplish something Tiger did as well by taking home the U.S. Junior Amateur championship.

The tournament runs from July 21-26 at Trinity Forest in Dallas.
