Rangers' Chris Kreider Reportedly Agrees to Ducks Trade, Waives NTC Amid NHL Rumors

Paul KasabianJun 12, 2025

Chris Kreider's 13-year career with the New York Rangers is on the verge of ending.

Larry Brooks of the New York Post reported Thursday that the 34-year-old veteran agreed to waive his no-trade clause as part of a trade to the Anaheim Ducks.

ESPN's Emily Kaplan reported Wednesday that the Rangers and Ducks were in the "advanced stages" of trade talks involving Kreider. However, Kreider needed to approve the deal since the Ducks were on his 15-team no-trade list.

Kreider has two years remaining on his contract, which pays him an average annual salary of $6.5 million.

Kreider has played his entire 13-year career with the Rangers, who selected the former Boston College star with the 19th overall pick in the 2009 NHL draft.

The two-time All-Star has posted 326 career goals and 256 assists. He enjoyed a phenomenal three-year run for New York from 2021-22 to 2023-24, scoring 127 goals, including a career-high 52 in 2021-22.

During that time, the Rangers made the Eastern Conference Finals twice and won 154 games, including the Presidents' Trophy in 2023-24. Kreider also helped lead the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014 against the Los Angeles Kings, and he is first in franchise history with 48 postseason goals.

However, the bottom fell out on the Rangers last season. New York went from 55 wins (114 points) to 39 victories (85 points). Kreider's point production plummeted, going from 39 points and 36 assists in 2023-24 to 22 goals and eight assists in 2024-25.

PuckPedia, Kreider is heading into the sixth season of a seven-year, $45.5 million contract that expires after the 2026-27 campaign, per PuckPedia.

New York fired head coach Peter Laviolette and hired Mike Sullivan as his replacement after the season. Further moves were certainly expected following the disappointing campaign.

Kreider was sensational at times during his Rangers career and very well could have his No. 20 jersey retired in the Madison Square Garden rafters someday. But a new chapter of his NHL is seemingly set to begin.

Kreider is now on the verge of joining the Ducks, a team that has suffered through seven straight losing seasons. In Anaheim, Kreider would be reunited with his longtime teammate in defenseman Jacob Trouba, who was traded to the Ducks last season after five-plus seasons in New York.
