Colts Reportedly Hope Anthony Richardson Returns from Injury Early in Training Camp

Jack MurrayJun 9, 2025

The Indianapolis Colts are hoping that quarterback Anthony Richardson's injury does not derail his offseason.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that Richardson's return to the field is currently "uncertain" but that they hope he can return early, potentially by the first day of training camp.

"His timeline for return to the field is still uncertain," Breer wrote. "But my sense is that the hope is he’ll be good to go within the first two weeks of training camp. Maybe he can be there by Day 1. Maybe he’ll be back at some point in early August. The main thing, for the team, is that this doesn’t recur again. So they’ll be patient and follow the recommendation that he rest the shoulder."

Breer also discussed Richardson's injury Monday on the Rich Eisen Show:

Breer reported the quarterback is set to visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache this week (16:30), the surgeon who performed the 2023 surgery on Richardson's shoulder.

Richardson is not participating in the team's mandatory minicamp due to a shoulder injury. The ailment is in the same shoulder that Richardson injured in his rookie season.

The third-year quarterback played in 11 games in 2024 and threw for 1,814 yards with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He was the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and the Colts are still looking for him to get a significant development bump.

The Colts brought in veteran quarterback Daniel Jones in the offseason to compete with Richardson, and he will get an opportunity to develop some rapport with his new teammates at minicamp. If Richardson is unable to go early in training camp, that could be an excellent opportunity for Jones to claim that role.
