WWE Rumors on R-Truth's Contract Talks and Requesting Name Change to Ron Killings
R-Truth's quick return to WWE involved direct negotiations with one of the company's top executives.
Fightful Select (via Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported Truth initially seemed to be a little reticent to engage with WWE in the days after his exit. However, "things opened up" when WWE president Nick Khan entered the picture.
Khan and other officials were aware of the negative reaction to R-Truth's release and wanted to make amends. As a result, the fan favorite was let go and brought back within one week.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer echoed the earlier notion this was all a "late decision" and not part of a storyline from the outset.
On the topic of R-Truth using his real name, Ron Killings, in lieu of his old character Meltzer added it was done at the request of the 53-year-old.
"The advantage is that when the new deal ends he will have had TV time as Ron Killings and can then go straight to using that name on indies and for personal appearances," the wrestling insider said.
The fact Killings is already looking ahead to what's next raises some questions about whether this more of a short-term comeback in order to create a big moment at Money in the Bank.
