Jon Jones, Francis Ngannou Tease Potential 'Clash of Champions' Fight amid UFC Rumors

Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou have hinted at a potential megafight in several social media posts.

"I’m hearing Francis Ngannou is still interested… now we’re talking," Jones wrote in a post on X. "That’s a real super fight. A clash of champions, not just hype. He held the UFC belt, I’ve defended mine for over a decade. Two kings from different roads. Not just one legend facing a mouth that’s hot right now, but two real legacies colliding."

On Saturday, Ngannou responded directly to Jones.

Eric Nicksick, Ngannou's coach, previously revealed that a return to UFC was a possibility.

The 38-year-old left the promotion in January 2023 and signed with the Professional Fighters League four months later. Ngannou currently holds the PFL Super Fights heavyweight title.

He has also taken up boxing during his PFL tenure, going the distance with Tyson Fury before losing by split decision and also suffering a second-round knockout defeat against Anthony Joshua.

Ngannou initially joined UFC in 2015 and ended up earning the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 260 in 2021. While he successfully defended the title, it was eventually stripped from him after he left the promotion.

Ngannou also expressed his desire to face Jones in October 2024, but claimed that UFC president Dana White was preventing the cross-promotional fight from occurring.

"The only guy standing in the way of that fight is Dana White," Ngannou said, via ESPN's Andreas Hale. "I want the Jon Jones fight. I'm down for the fight. Jones is down for the fight. But this is a new narrative. I was down for a Jon Jones fight three years ago and I am down for it now."

As for Jones, he's the current UFC heavyweight champion but hasn't seemed to be interested in clashing with interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall for a unification fight.

A battle between Jones and Ngannou could be on the horizon instead.
