Fantasy Football Week 1: Start Ems

QUARTERBACKS – START ‘EM

Shaun Hill (San Francisco 49ers) @ Arizona

The 49ers figure to run the ball down Arizona’s throat in this match-up, but it doesn’t mean that Shaun Hill can’t have a solid game as well. Their run first mentality figures to open up play action passes throughout the game, which Hill should capitalize on thanks to the great rapport he established with wide receivers Josh Morgan and Isaac Bruce in 2008. While Hill was just average in their match-up last year (217 Passing Yards, 2 TD, 2 INT), a cut down on the interceptions would make him a sneaky fantasy pick for week 1.

Chad Pennington (Miami Dolphins) @ Atlanta

Similar to the skills and arm strength of the aforementioned Shaun Hill, Chad Pennington is a low-risk option week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. Facing a stout Falcons defense against the run, the Dolphins only chance will be to rely on Pennington’s strong-willed arm. With play makers surrounding Pennington in Ted Ginn Jr., Ronnie Brown, and Davone Bess, Pennington’s short screens and dump-offs could turn into fantasy gold.

Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) vs. New York Jets

While the Jets figure to be a top-10 defense, much of that will be based on their top-5 run stopping ability. While Steve Slaton figures to struggle mightily in this week 1 match-up, that should open up ample opportunities for Schaub to excel. As long as Schaub can stay on the field, this is a favorable week 1 match-up due to the Texans emphasis on the pass. Start ‘em and don’t look back in week 1.
