Packers' All-Pro KR Keisean Nixon 'Open' to Returning Kicks Despite Previous Comments
Green Bay Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon told reporters that he would be "open" to returning kicks again despite saying last January that he no longer would do, per The Athletic's Matt Schneidman.
The Packers' season ended after they lost 22-10 to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, January 12.
On the following day, when players cleaned out their lockers, Nixon expressed his desire to be the team's top starting cornerback as opposed to handling kick return duties too.
"I want to be CB1," Nixon said, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky. "CB1 is not doing kick returns. That's just what it is."
As Demovsky noted, Nixon has moved into a full-time CB role over the years, playing 93.7 percent of the team's defensive snaps in 2024. The 27-year-old, who is a six-year pro, amassed 88 tackles (61 solo), seven pass breakups and six quarterback hits.
Nixon, who was an All-Pro kick returner in 2022 and 2023, saw his duties decrease there in 2024. He returned 35 kicks in 2022 and 30 in 2023 before just 18 in 2024.
In the heat of the moment last year, Nixon seemed done with returning kicks, but that no longer seems to be the case as Green Bay looks for its third straight playoff appearance and more in 2025.
