Pacioretty Suffers a Knee Injury

The Canadiens announced Friday that Pacioretty suffered a knee injury during an off-ice workout in Florida on Thursday. 

The team predicted in its release that the injury would take 12 weeks to fully heal. That means his recovery time would allow him to return around October 1. The Canadiens open up their 2015-16 season on October 7 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 26-year-old set career highs last season with 30 assists and 67 points to go along with 37 goals. Pacioretty has developed into one of the most dangerous wingers in the league, appearing on the league's top-five goal-scoring chart in each of the past two seasons.

He helped lead the Canadiens to a 110-point season and an Atlantic Division crown last season.

With the second-best point total in the NHL, trailing only the New York Rangers' 113, the Canadiens were bounced from the playoffs in the Eastern Conference semifinals by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

If Pacioretty is not ready for the season-opener, expect Alex Galchenyuk to move up from the second line and help flank Tomas Plekanec and Brendan Gallagher.
