Fever Eye Guard Help on Hardship Contracts After Injuries to Caitlin Clark, More

Zach BacharJun 1, 2025

The Indiana Fever are looking to add a player on a hardship contract following injuries to Caitlin Clark and other key contributors, team president Kelly Krauskopf announced Sunday.

"We're looking at adding another player for a replacement player to help us with our numbers and try to get people healthy and try to get a full roster back together," Krauskopf told reporters Sunday.

She added that the Fever are "hoping" a move can be made before Tuesday.

Clark is currently out with a left quad strain, while Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham both left Indiana's 85-83 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Friday with injuries.

Fever head coach Stephanie White discussed the type of player that the team is looking to sign to a hardship contract.

"I think best player available at that position who can add value on both ends of the floor," White told the media on Sunday (1:56 mark). "Certainly we need to have someone who can add value on the defensive end. We gotta have somebody who can help us navigate and get into offense, handle the ball. Since we're down to what, two healthy guards? The goal would be to get everybody back to their natural positions if we can."

Krauskopf also emphasized the importance of depth in regards to the smaller roster sizes in the WNBA.

"You have an 11-player roster and you lose three players like that, now you've got to add a quick player to your roster," Krauskopf said (8:20 mark). "So, it's something that you just deal with being in this league."

While Clark was still finding her rhythm from behind the arc, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year started her second season on a high note. In her first four appearances, she averaged 19.0 points, 9.3 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game on 40.3/31.4/75.0 shooting splits.

Indiana has struggled without Clark, averaging 80.0 points per game in two contests since her injury after recording 88.0 points per game throughout her first four starts.

The Fever are currently in the midst of a three-game losing streak, sitting at No. 9 in the WNBA standings with a 2-4 record.

As Indiana attempts to bounce back without Clark and manage the injuries of Colson and Cunningham, the team appears to be searching for some external help.
