Malik Nabers Rehabbing Toe Injury, Giants Want WR Healthy for NFL Training Camp

Mike ChiariMay 28, 2025

New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers is still on the mend from a toe injury that hampered him last season.

According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Nabers wouldn't do much at OTAs since he is still rehabbing.

Raanan noted that the Giants want to ensure Nabers gets the rest he needs to be healthy for training camp.

After starring collegiately at LSU, Nabers went sixth overall to the Giants in the 2024 NFL draft, and he didn't disappoint as a rookie.

Starting 13 of the 15 games he appeared in, Nabers recorded 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. He finished fifth in the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and was named to the Pro Bowl.

Nabers missed two games last season due to a concussion and was banged up for much of the campaign, which caused him to miss practice or log limited practice on occasion.

He battled through that, but perhaps most impressively, he put up big numbers despite one of the worst quarterback situations in the NFL.

Daniel Jones started the first 10 games of the season and struggled before getting benched and subsequently released.

Drew Lock went on to start five games and Tommy DeVito started two, and the Giants collectively had some of the worst quarterback production in the entire league.

As a team, the Giants threw for just 3,228 yards, 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, and Nabers was responsible for nearly half of the team's total receiving yardage and receiving touchdowns.

The Giants completely overhauled their quarterback room this offseason, signing both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency, and trading back into the first round of the 2025 NFL draft to take Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart with the No. 25 overall pick.

Regardless of who wins the starting job out of training camp, one can only assume that they will provide better quarterback play than what Nabers and the rest of the Giants' pass-catchers grew accustomed to last season.

Since surprisingly making the playoffs in 2022 with a 9-7-1 record, the Giants have experienced a steep drop-off, going 6-11 in 2023 and 3-14 last season.

As a result, the Giants aren't expected by many to vie for a playoff spot in 2025, but they have a legitimate superstar wideout in Nabers, and their offense has a chance to take a big step forward with a quarterback who gets the ball to him and his teammates more consistently.

A healthy Nabers will be key to the Giants' success during the upcoming season, which is likely why there is no sense of urgency to press him into action during OTAs.
