NFL Scout Calls Drake Maye, Patriots 'Biggest Threat' to Josh Allen, Bills in AFC East

Andrew PetersMay 26, 2025

The AFC East seems like it's the Buffalo Bills' to win again, and they're favored in all of their games, but one scout thinks they'll have a worthy challenger for the division title.

Per ESPN's Mike Reiss, one scout believes the New England Patriots could compete with Buffalo this season.

"This is the best offseason they've had in a while. I feel like they're the Bills' biggest threat," the scout said.

The Patriots are coming off another 4-13 season, but things are looking promising heading into the 2025 campaign. It starts with second-year quarterback Drake Maye, who showed flashes of stardom when he threw for 2,276 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 421 yards and a pair of scores on the ground in 13 games last season.

New England spent the offseason getting pieces that will make things easier for him this year. The Patriots signed veteran receiver Stefon Diggs and brought in another receiver option in Mack Hollins. They also bolstered the offensive line by taking Will Campbell in the first round and signing veterans Garrett Bradbury and Morgan Moses.

New England also has a revamped defense, highlighted by defensive tackle Milton Williams.

It's hard to say whether the Patriots are Super Bowl contenders just yet, but they should have enough to compete with Buffalo for the AFC East crown.
