Colts Release CB After Trade Request
The two-time Pro Bowler's lone absence came in the final week of the regular season. With Los Angeles having already clinched the division, head coach Sean McVay decided to rest his starter.
Stafford's wife, Kelly, subsequently divulged he cracked four of his ribs in Week 15 and played through the injury the rest of the way.
It's a similar story for the 37-year-old, who hasn't missed a lot of time across his career despite picking up a variety of injuries big and small.
Stafford's future in Southern California was in some doubt in the offseason. The Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants both showed interest in his services before he signed a new contract with the Rams.
Stafford is obviously a key piece in Los Angeles' quest for a third straight playoff berth. In Jimmy Garoppolo, McVay does at least have an experienced backup who gives the offense a high floor.
Garoppolo went 27-of-41 for 334 yards, two touchdowns and an interception when he started in Week 18. All things considered, the 33-year-old is a good contingency plan to have.
