Gabe Davis Reportedly Visits 49ers in NFL Free Agency After Being Released by Jaguars

Zach BacharMay 12, 2025

The San Francisco 49ers hosted wide receiver Gabe Davis on a visit in free agency, according to Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz.

Davis opened his career with the Buffalo Bills before spending the 2024 season on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He was released by the Jaguars on Wednesday, being designated as a post-June 1 cut in order for Jacksonville to save $794,118 in cap space (via ESPN's Michael DiRocco).

The writing appeared to be on the wall for Davis following the team's offseason moves, signing wideout Dyami Brown to a one-year deal worth $10 million in free agency. Jacksonville also traded up to select two-way standout Travis Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Hunter is expected to immediately contribute at wide receiver in his rookie year.

Davis failed to exceed expectations during his lone year in Jacksonville, appearing in just 10 games due to knee and shoulder issues as well as a season-ending torn meniscus.

He hauled in 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns.

While Davis is coming off an injury, there's still hope that a change of scenery could allow him to return to his former self. He served as a complimentary wide receiver in Buffalo alongside Stefon Diggs, racking up 1,582 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023 and 2024 combined.

Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall are in line to receive the bulk of targets in San Francisco's 2025 passing attack, but Davis could be a serviceable depth option as the team looks to bounce back from a disappointing 6-11 finish last season.

If his meeting with the 49ers goes well, he could find himself on their roster entering training camp.
