CC Sabathia, Andruw Jones Headline Rosters for 2025 MLB East-West Classic

Julia StumbaughMay 6, 2025

Incoming Hall of Famer CC Sabathia and 10-time Gold Glove Award winner Andruw Jones will headline the 2025 MLB East-West Classic.

The MLB announced the rosters on Tuesday ahead of the June 19 event, which serves as a tribute to the Negro Leagues’ All-Star games.

Sabathia will captain the West roster, while Jones will star on an East roster led by captain Chris Young.

The East-West Classic will take place this June at Alabama's Rickwood Field, former home of the Birmingham Black Barons.

The rosters were announced on what would have been the 94th birthday of Willie Mays, who played for the Black Barons before joining MLB.

The 2024 East-West Classic was held by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.

Sabathia will participate in this year's event one month before his July 27 induction into the Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

During his 2019 season with the New York Yankees, Sabathia became the 17th pitcher and third left-hander to record 3,000 career strikeouts.

Jones has not yet gotten his own call from the Hall of Fame, but votes have been trending upward in his favor over the last few years.

After receiving 58.1 percent of the Hall of Fame vote in 2023 and 61.6 percent in 2024, Jones received a 66.2 percent vote to become part of the Class of 2025. A vote at or above 75 percent next year would send Jones to join Sabathia in Cooperstown.

Jones and Ichiro Suzuki, also voted into the Class of 2025, are the only outfielders outside of four Hall of Famers in Mays, Roberto Clemente, Al Kaline and Ken Griffey Jr. to win 10 Gold Glove Awards.

In total, the 30 players on the East and West rosters combined for more than 35,900 career MLB games, 68 All-Star appearances and 10 World Series wins, according to MLB.com's Dan Chichalski.
