Kyle Hamilton, Ravens Reportedly Agree to Historic 4-Year, $100M Contract Extension

Joseph ZuckerAug 27, 2025

Having already exercised Kyle Hamilton's club option for 2026, the Baltimore Ravens made sure the veteran safety will stick around well beyond that.

The two sides agreed to a four-year, $100 million extension, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reported the deal will make Hamilton the highest-paid safety in the NFL.

The Ravens confirmed the agreement, but did not give terms of the contract.

When the Ravens triggered Hamilton's fifth-year option, general manager Eric DeCosta said the intention was to continue negotiations on a long-term contract.

Given how well he has performed to this point, DeCosta will have known that getting Hamilton to sign on the dotted line would likely require resetting the safety market. Kerby Joseph set the previous standard for overall value ($86 million) and annual salary ($21.5 million) when he re-signed with the Detroit Lions.

Hamilton was a Pro Bowler for the second straight year in 2024. He intercepted one pass and registered 107 tackles and two sacks.

According to Pro Football Reference, opposing quarterbacks targeted Hamilton 58 times and had an 84.4 passer rating on those attempts. He allowed one touchdown all year.

Chuck Pagano, who's a senior secondary coach for Baltimore, called Hamilton "an avatar" because of how seamlessly he can shift between multiple roles.

"He's unbelievable, his length, his speed, his size, his coverage for a safety, like he can cover slot receivers. It doesn't matter who it is," Pagano said on the team's official podcast (via Paul M. Banks of Ravens Wire). "Like there's no panic when you watch him out there. It doesn't matter if they got him at nickel, big nickel, safety, dime, from a mental standpoint, he knows all that. He's a great communicator."

Hamilton went 14th overall to Baltimore in the 2022 NFL draft, so it's not as though he dropped much. Still, the sense at the time was that he went later than he should've thanks in part to his 40-yard dash time (4.59 seconds). He has proven to be the steal a lot of people thought, asserting himself as a defensive leader when he became a full-time starter in 2023.

DeCosta's job got a lot harder from the moment he signed quarterback Lamar Jackson to a $260 million extension in 2023. A new, even bigger contract for Jackson could be coming down the pike before too long.

Paying your veteran QB the market rate inevitably means some key players either get traded or walk as free agents.

DeCosta clearly thought Hamilton was too valuable to lose.
