Gabriel Taylor Invited to Commanders Minicamp, Brother of Late NFL Legend Sean Taylor
The Washington Commanders extended a rookie minicamp invite to a player related to a team icon on Monday.
Rice safety Gabriel Taylor, the younger brother of late Commanders legend Sean Taylor, accepted an invite to compete for a spot on the team.
Washington's rookie minicamp starts on May 8 and runs through May 11.
The younger Taylor received "multiple offers" from teams after the 2025 draft concluded before choosing to join Washington, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.
He spent his entire college career at Rice, gradually developing into a starter after appearing in just five games during his freshman season in 2020.
Taylor finished with 239 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 10 interceptions and four sacks in 54 games throughout his tenure with the Owls.
He's coming off a breakout 2024 season in which he earned All-AAC Second Team honors. In 12 appearances, he recorded a team-high 57 tackles. Taylor also racked up seven tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, three interceptions, three sacks and two forced fumbles.
He showcased his speed at Rice's pro day, recording 40-yard dash times between 4.38 seconds and 4.4 seconds (h/t Bryan Manning of Commanders Wire).
He also explained what NFL teams would be getting with him when speaking to the media at his pro day.
"A diamond in the rough," Taylor said, via Manning. "A person that's going to come in and compete. I don't care about being a superstar...I want to be the best role player I can be."
His older brother, Sean, made two consecutive Pro Bowl appearances with Washington in 2006 and 2007 before he died at the age of 24 due to a gunshot wound suffered during a burglary in his home.
Now, his younger sibling will look to carve out his own role on the Commanders.
