Deion Sanders Posts Motivational Message After Browns Draft Shedeur, Bucs Sign Shilo

Scott PolacekApr 27, 2025

Deion Sanders is putting the 2025 NFL draft behind him and is looking ahead after the Cleveland Browns selected one of his sons, Shedeur, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed another of his sons, Shilo, as an undrafted free agent.

"Everybody's worried about what happened yesterday & fear the possibilities of what will happen tomorrow when we should be focused on NOW" the Colorado head coach wrote on social media Sunday:

While Cam Ward went No. 1 overall and playmakers such as Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter heard their names called, Shedeur Sanders was the biggest story of the entire draft.

There was a time when the 2024 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year was seen as a surefire first-rounder who could be a top-five selection. However, speculation that he could slide come draft day picked up ahead of Thursday's first round.

And he certainly slid.

Sanders didn't get picked until the fifth round at No. 144 overall when the Cleveland Browns added him to their quarterback room. Even those who expected the Buffaloes signal-caller to fall in the draft surely didn't envision him dropping all the way to the third day.

That Cleveland was the one to pick him after it already used a third-round selection on Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel made the entire situation all the more surprising.

For his part, Sanders seemed to remain fairly positive throughout the process:

As for Shilo Sanders, he was a far different story.

It would have been fairly surprising if any team drafted him considering he is already 25 years old, dealt with injuries in college and didn't star at Colorado like his brother. He was a solid playmaker at times in the Buffaloes secondary, but he was far from the conference player of the year.

Going undrafted gave him more freedom to choose his destination, and he ended up joining a Buccaneers team with a defensive-minded head coach in Todd Bowles.

His next step will be competing to make the team during offseason activities, training camp and perhaps the preseason.
