Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Wants to 'Take Revenge for Mike Tyson' in Jake Paul Fight

Joseph ZuckerApr 27, 2025

Julio César Chávez Jr. was motivated to fight Jake Paul as he watched Paul outclass Mike Tyson in the ring last November.

"I wanna take revenge for Mike Tyson," he said to TMZ Sports. "When I saw the fight, my first thought was, I wanna fight Jake Paul."

A lot of fight fans were left underwhelmed by Paul vs. Tyson.

Based on his training videos, the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion seemed to still have some of his old knockout power. Once the bell rang, however, "Iron Mike" looked very bit his age. He connected on just 18 punches over eight rounds.

Paul won by unanimous decision, running his professional record to 11-1.

Chávez figures to pose a stiffer challenge.

The 39-year-old's star has fallen a bit after his reign as the WBC middleweight champion ended in 2012. Counting that unanimous decision loss to Sergio Martínez, he's 8-6 in his last 14 fights, and that stretch includes dropping a split-decision to UFC legend Anderson Silva.

Chávez has also fought just once since 2024, which was against another UFC fighter-turned-boxer, Uriah Hall.

Still, the son of Julio César Chávez is an experienced opponent who remains close to his athletic prime.

Beyond the desire to avoid another embarrassing defeat, it sounds like Chávez is driven by a bigger purpose.
