Titans' Cam Ward Reportedly Was 'Major Advocate' for Xavier Restrepo UDFA Contract
After being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, new Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward became a major advocate for the team to sign wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz.
Restrepo shared the moment he received the call on social media:
Restrepo, a former five-year player for the Miami Hurricanes, was signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent shortly after the draft concluded on Saturday, largely thanks to his former Miami quarterback, Ward.
Ward and Restrepo teamed up for the 2024 Miami Hurricanes, with Ward joining the team after Restrepo had spent four years there, entering his fifth season after a redshirt freshman year.
The two helped lead the Hurricanes to a 10-3 finish and their highest AP ranking at No. 4 since 2017, although they ultimately lost in the Pop-Tart Bowl 42-41 to Iowa State.
Restrepo led the ACC conference in receiving yards with 1,127 and added 11 touchdowns.
The rekindling comes after Restrepo was highly vocal about Ward going No. 1, calling it a "no-brainer."
"Open your eyes. I mean think for two seconds. It's a no-brainer," Restrepo said, per ESPN's Turron Davenport. "The guy's proven everything he needs to prove. He's a amazing, super confident, God fearing guy. A humble beast. He never changes and is never phased by anything."
Tennessee selected two wide receivers during the 2025 draft, Florida's Chimere Dike and Stanford's Elic Ayomanor, in addition to adding Seattle’s wide receiver Tyler Lockett ahead of the draft.
The Titans' veteran wide receiver room boasts significant talent in Calvin Ridley, Lockett and Van Jefferson, but also offers ample opportunity for Restrepo to step in and earn solid minutes in his rookie season.
