Initial NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year odds for the 2025 season were revealed on Saturday.

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Mykel Williams and Atlanta Falcons linebacker Jalon Walker both have the third-best odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year honors at +900, while Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jihaad Campbell has +1200 odds to round out the top five.

Other notable players include Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Mason Graham with +1400 odds and Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart with +1600 odds.
Hunter and Carter being early candidates to win the award doesn't come as a major surprise, as they were the first two defensive players selected in the draft at No. 2 and No. 3 overall, respectively.
History favors Carter, as five of the past six Defensive Rookie of the Year winners have been pass-rushers.
He was dominant during his senior season at Penn State, racking up 12 sacks and 24 tackles for loss with two forced fumbles.
Hunter earned Heisman Trophy honors in 2024 for his impact at wide receiver and cornerback, particularly excelling on defense.
He won the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is given to the nation's top defender. Hunter recorded 36 tackles, 11 passes defensed and four interceptions with the Buffaloes last season.
As the incoming rookie class prepares for training camp, Carter and Hunter are early favorites to take home some hardware at the end of the 2025 regular season.
