As the NBA playoffs were in full-swing, NFL fans anxiously awaited the draft of former Colorado quarterback Sanders, who at one point was projected as a top-5 pick but ultimately fell to the fifth round as the No. 144 overall pick.
The former Colorado Buffalo finished his second season under his father, Deion Sanders, throwing for 4,134 total yards, 37 touchdowns, and boasting a 74 percent completion rate.
As he continued to slide down the draft board, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. expressed being "disgusted" with the results.
"I really have nothing to say. I'm just disgusted. That's all I can say,"ย Kiper saidย as the third round closed out on Friday.ย
In the same broadcast, ESPN's Mike Greenberg called it "shocking," noting that he had never seen anything like it before.
"It is inarguably one of the most surprising and shocking stories that I can recall in all of the years that I've been following the draft, and that is about as long as Mel Kiper has been hosting it," Greenberg added.
Seven picks later, with five different positions selected and as the Brownsโ second quarterback pick of the draft, Sanders finally found his new home in "The Land."
