Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr's Best Landing Spots After 2025 NFL Draft Day 2

With three rounds of the 2025 NFL draft in the books, a few teams' quarterback situations are becoming clearer.

After the Tennessee Titans added Cam Ward and the New York Giants brought in Jaxson Dart during Thursday's Round 1, three more quarterbacks came off the board on Friday.

The New Orleans Saints drafted Louisville's Tyler Shough in the second round with the No. 40 pick, introducing further uncertainty as to Derek Carr's position next season.

The Seahawks later selected Alabama's Jalen Milroe in the third round with the No. 92 pick, followed by the Browns taking Oregon's Dillon Gabriel at No. 94.

With five rookie quarterbacks set to join the league next fall, here's a look at the best landing spots for veteran NFL quarterbacks who could be seeking a new team next season like Carr and the Atlanta Falcons' Kirk Cousins.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have drafted Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon and Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson as of Friday night.

What remains unanswered through two days of the 2025 NFL draft is what the team plans to do at quarterback.

With Aaron Rodgers' plans for the 2025 season still not set and no signal caller drafted through three rounds, the Steelers' depth chart is still led by Mason Rudolph.

Even if the Steelers decide to target a quarterback in Day 3, this is a quarterback room that could use some veteran experience.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini recently named the Steelers as a potential candidate to trade for Cousins. If that doesn't work out, the team could consider targeting Carr despite his injury concerns should the Saints decide to move on.

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns are another team with a question mark at QB1 after Deshaun Watson re-injured his Achilles tendon in January.

The Browns used the No. 94 pick of the 2025 NFL draft to bring in Gabriel, but could use a veteran starting option to build out a depth chart currently led by 40-year-old Joe Flacco.

Cleveland was another franchise tied by Russini to a potential trade for Cousins, although D. Orlando Ledbetter previously said in an appearance on Cleveland's 92.3 The Fan (h/t Audacy) that the Browns are hesitant about taking on Cousins' contract.

If the Atlanta Falcons ultimately cut Cousins, he could be a candidate to sign his next deal as a presumptive starting quarterback in Cleveland.

Minnesota Vikings

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told reporters earlier this week that Carr has a shoulder injury, but didn't give many specifics.

Any team adding Carr ahead of the 2025 campaign could be taking a risk in terms of his availability next season.

That could make the Minnesota Vikings, where rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy is projected to earn a starting role next season, a potential landing spot.

Russini tied the Vikings to a potential interest in Cousins, but noted that Cousins doesn't want to join a depth chart behind a young quarterback.

Carr's injury status could mean he has fewer options as to his own landing spot, and the Vikings could potentially afford to take a risk on his availability given their hopes surrounding McCarthy. That could make Minnesota an option should the Saints part ways with Carr this offseason.
