Excited Raiders fans and Jeanty supporters took to social media to celebrate the pick, including star defensive end Maxx Crosby:
Jeanty, who led the nation in rushing by nearly 1,000 yards, posted a staggering 2,601 yards on 374 carries with 29 touchdowns during his junior year at Boise State. The Jacksonville, Florida, native starred for three seasons with the Broncos after coming out of Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas.
He helped guide Boise State to a 12-2 record, an undefeated mark in Mountain West Conference play (7-0), and the programโs highest finish in the AP poll since 2011โcoming in at No. 8.
Jeanty also finished second in Heisman Trophy voting following a season full of highlight-reel moments, including a monster 267-yard, six-touchdown game against Georgia Southern.
In Bleacher Reportโs final mock draft, the Scouting Department projected Jeanty to go No. 5 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars, pairing him with quarterback Trevor Lawrence in what would have been a dynamic backfield.
However, just as the event was kicking off, the Cleveland Browns traded the No. 2 overall pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for the No. 5 selection. With the pick, the Jaguars drafted Coloradoโs Travis Hunter.ย
B/R NFL scout Dame Parson compared Jeanty to former three-time Pro Bowler Maurice Jones-Drew, who led the league in total yards and carries in 2011. Parson highlighted Jeantyโs skill set:
โ Strong, compact build with a physical running styleย ย
โ Elite contact balance, tough to bring down on first contactย ย
โ Patient with great vision and ability to set up blockersย ย
โ Quick burst and acceleration through the holeย ย
โ Reliable hands, making him a true three-down back
Jeanty enters the league as the No. 1 running back prospect and No. 7 overall on Bleacher Reportโs final Big Board, with expectations to start immediately.
