Shedeur Sanders Reportedly Drawing Steelers Buzz, Giants Meeting Didn't Go Well

Doric SamApr 24, 2025

Many are still wondering where Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders will land in the 2025 NFL draft, but one expert believes the Pittsburgh Steelers are the most likely destination.

NFL draft guru Todd McShay reported in his latest newsletter that the Steelers appear poised to use the No. 21 pick to select Sanders.

"Based on conversations I’m having with people in the league, there’s a growing sense that Sanders will be the pick at 21," McShay wrote. "As I’ve said multiple times over the past couple of weeks, Mike Tomlin and Sanders did hit it off during the pre-draft process—any reports to the contrary are false."

McShay explained that Tomlin "has had a greater impact on personnel decisions" since Omar Khan was promoted to general manager in 2022 to replace Kevin Colbert, so "there’s a strong likelihood Tomlin is going to push the organization to draft Sanders." He added that he feels "there’s a better than 50/50 chance that Sanders will be a Steeler by the end of the night."

Sanders' rapport with Tomlin is particularly interesting given the polarizing reviews he's received from other coaches. McShay reported that Sanders' recent meeting with New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll "did not go particularly well," as there was "some frustration between the two regarding Sanders’s preparation of an install package."

"It seems the interview process as a whole—beginning in Indianapolis, as I reported a few days after the combine—has negatively affected the leaguewide perception of Sanders during the lead-up to this year’s draft," McShay added.

Still, Sanders is a talented prospect and the No. 2 quarterback in the B/R NFL Scouting Department's draft big board, so it wouldn't be a surprise if a team like Pittsburgh takes a chance on him. However, if the Steelers pass on him with the 21st pick, McShay stated that he expects him to remain on the board until the second round on Friday.
