Giants, Browns Reportedly in 2025 NFL Draft Trade Talks, Eye QB at End of 1st Round

Adam WellsApr 23, 2025

Owning the top two picks of the second round, the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants are trying to make moves ahead of the 2025 NFL draft to get back into the first round.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, both Cleveland and New York are placing calls to teams picking near the end of the first round with the goal of adding a quarterback if either club can move up.

There does seem to be a race between teams like the Browns, Giants and New Orleans Saints to get back into the first round.

In this potential scenario, the Saints have shown they have no problem making a bold move. General manager Mickey Loomis has madeย nineย draft-day trades involving future-year picks to move up in the current-year draft, most recently in 2022 when he traded a 2023 first-rounder to the Philadelphia Eagles to select Trevor Penning at No. 19 overall.

It would presumably be easier for the Browns or Giants to swing a trade back into the first round because of where they are picking in Round 2. Cleveland kicks off the second round at No. 33, followed by the Giants at 34.

The interest from the Browns and Giants in trading up could also depend on which quarterbacks are still available. There's aย growing expectationย that Shedeur Sanders could end up falling out of the top 20.

Even if the Colorado product remains on the board in the back of the first round, would either the Browns or Giants want to move up for him? The Ringer's Todd McShay hasย saidย Giants head coach Brian Daboll prefers Jaxson Dart over Sanders.

McShay alsoย notedย the Browns aren't expected to trade back into the first round for Sanders.

Given howย divisive opinionsย about this year's quarterback class seem, there's also a scenario in which the Browns and Giants just stand pat because at least two of Sanders, Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe and Will Howard will be available on day two.
