Travis Hunter Reportedly Eyed In NFL Draft Trade Talks With Browns, Giants, Patriots

Mike ChiariApr 23, 2025

University of Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter is reportedly on the radar for multiple teams looking to trade up into the top four picks in the 2025 NFL draft.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Cleveland Browns at No. 2, New York Giants at No. 3 and New England Patriots at No. 4 have fielded trade calls, and most of the teams they have spoken to want to move up for Hunter.

Russini added that the Browns, Giants and Patriots are all openly listening to offers, although no deals have been struck yet.

Hunter is arguably the best all-around player in the draft, as he excelled on both sides of the ball at wide receiver and cornerback during his time at Colorado.

He truly put it all together last season, finishing with 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, plus 36 tackles, 11 passes defended and four interceptions en route to winning the Heisman Trophy.

Questions have long persisted regarding whether Hunter will primarily be a wideout or a corner at the next level, but the team that picks him may not have to choose.

Speaking last week to Garrett Podell of CBS Sports, Hunter suggested that he will quit football if a team doesn't give him the opportunity to play on both sides of the ball in the NFL, saying: "It's never playing football again. Because I've been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field. I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing it."

The feasibility of Hunter excelling at both wide receiver and cornerback, and staying healthy enough to do so on a consistent basis remains to be seen, but he presents enormous value if he can pull it off.

A team selecting Hunter could conceivably be getting a No. 1 receiver and No. 1 corner at the same time, which is something that hasn't happened in the modern era of NFL football.

Because of that, it is understandable why teams are reportedly taking their best shot at convincing the Browns, Giants or Patriots to move down.

Assuming the longstanding belief of Miami quarterback Cam Ward going No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans holds true, the Browns will hold the entire draft in the palm of their hand at No. 2.

They could either stand pat and take Hunter or Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter, or they could move back, accumulate assets and allow another team to nab a potential difference-maker in Hunter.

In the latest BR NFL Scouting Department mock draft, Hunter was indeed projected to go No. 2 overall with the Browns sticking in that spot and taking him.

Of course, the Browns have several positions of need they have to fill after going 3-14 last season, so they have to at least consider any trade that brings back a bounty of additional picks.

The same goes for the Giants and Patriots, both of whom would likely strongly consider Hunter if he falls to them, while also listening to trade offers.
