Shedeur Sanders Talks Giants, Steelers, Saints QB-WR Duos Amid 2025 NFL Draft Rumors

Paul KasabianApr 22, 2025

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been connected to the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints and New York Giants in various forms as the NFL draft looms Thursday.

On Tuesday, Sanders was asked about his favorite NFL quarterback-wide receiver duos on Las Vegas edge-rusher Maxx Crosby's podcast, and he gave a humorous answer in response.

In short, Sanders mentioned the Saints (Derek Carr and Chris Olave), the Steelers (their QB1 and George Pickens/DK Metcalf) and the Giants (their eventual QB1 and Malik Nabers).

The latest B/R NFL Scouting Department mock draft has Sanders going sixth overall to the New Orleans Saints, who traded up from No. 9 to No. 6 with the Las Vegas Raiders in that exercise.

Per B/R's Brent Sobleski:

"The New Orleans Saints have no choice. Granted, general manager Mickey Loomis could be patient and see if Shedeur Sanders falls to them with the ninth overall pick. It's quite possible. But why risk it?

"New Orleans can start its rebuild in earnest by fully moving on from Derek Carr either now or next offseason and getting what it hopes is its next franchise quarterback—which will be an odd feeling since it hasn't selected a quarterback in the first round since Archie Manning in 1971."

Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr is dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for the 2025 season, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. So the Saints very well could find themselves in a position to select the best quarterback available in this draft to prepare themselves for the possibility that he can't play. Plus, New Orleans may need a long-term quarterback anyway, with Carr's contract expiring after 2026.

The Steelers and Giants could be options, though, as well, with both squads having big question marks at the position.

Pittsburgh is looking for its QB1. The Steelers want that to be Aaron Rodgers, but it's unclear what he's deciding at this juncture, and retirement is on the table as well, per his recent comments to ESPN's Pat McAfee.

Meanwhile, the Giants have two veterans in the QB room on one-year contracts in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, but the big question is what the team will do in 2026 and beyond.

The Steelers are picking 21st overall in this draft, and the Giants are selecting third. At No. 3, Big Blue could very well take a blue-chip prospect like Colorado's Travis Hunter or Penn State's Abdul Carter and look to go QB later. Sanders could certainly be a landing spot for Pittsburgh at 21st.

We'll see soon enough where Sanders goes with the draft beginning Thursday from Green Bay.
