Simone Biles Unsure If She'll Compete in 2028 LA Olympics, Says Her 'Body is Aging'

Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles says she has not yet decided if she will represent Team USA at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Biles told the French newspaper L’Equipe (translation h/t the Associated Press) she will be in Los Angeles in summer 2028, "whether on the apparatus or in the stands, I still don't know that."

"But 2028 seems so far away, and my body is aging. I felt it in Paris," Biles said.

Biles, who is married to Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, also told L'Equipe that she is "really trying to enjoy life, to spend time with my husband, go support him at his games, live my life as a woman."

Biles turned 28 in March. She won gold in the all-around, vault and team competitions while taking silver in floor exercise in the 2024 Paris Olympics, which she told L’Equipe had taken a toll on her body.

“I went back to the village, I took the elevator and my body literally collapsed. I was sick for 10 days,” Biles said, per the AP.

Biles added: "The other day, we were sprinting in the garden with friends, I had aches and pains for three days. So, I honestly don’t know. We’ll see.”

This isn't the first time Biles has expressed uncertainty about returning to Olympic competition in three years.

When asked during the Olympics in Paris if she would return in 2028, Biles answered: "Never say never. The next Olympics is at home, so you just never know, but I am getting really old."

When asked as part of a January profile by Sports Illustrated's Stephanie Apstein what Los Angeles would have to mean for her to make her return, Biles answered, "Life and death."

“Because I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done," Biles told Apstein.

“If you go back, you’ll be greedy. Those are the consequences. But that’s also your decision to decide. What sacrifices would be made if I go back now? When you’re younger, it’s like, prom, college. Now it’s like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?”

Biles, who struggled with a mental block described as the "twisties" before withdrawing from Olympic competition in Tokyo in 2021, said she had "something to prove" in Paris last summer. Having unquestionably proven herself, the 11-time Olympic medalist may not feel the same push ahead of what will be her age-31 gymnastics season in 2028.
