Stephon Gilmore Visits Cowboys in 2025 NFL Free Agency After 1 Season with Vikings

Joseph ZuckerApr 22, 2025

Veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore visited with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday.

"We're always looking to make things better," executive vice president Stephen Jones told reporters. "It doesn't always mean that if they're in the building that there's a deal in the works."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport cautioned the Cowboys "are not signing Stephon Gilmore today."

Gilmore started 15 games for the Minnesota Vikings in 2024. He finished with 56 tackles, one interception and nine pass breakups. According to Pro Football Reference, opposing quarterbacks averaged 11.5 yards per completion when targeting him and had a 94.1 passer rating.

There's a reason the 34-year-old remains unsigned to this point in the offseason. He's no longer the corner who was a back-to-back All-Pro and earned Defensive Player of the Year in 2019.

Depending on how the 2025 NFL draft shakes out, though, signing Gilmore is something that could be worth considering for Dallas.

Trevon Diggs had knee surgery in January, and his status for the regular season could be in flux. The Cowboys watched another of their entrenched starters, Jourdan Lewis, leave as a free agent. Their depth at cornerback is seriously lacking.

In addition to his wider experience in the NFL, Gilmore has some familiarity in Dallas after spending the 2023 season there.

With the team's decision to not sign him now, it looks like the Cowboys are waiting to see if an opportunity presents itself in the draft. Otherwise, Gilmore would be a solid acquisition for the secondary.
