Jerry Jones Says He Won't Be Decision-Maker on Cowboys' No. 12 Pick in 2025 NFL Draft

Julia StumbaughApr 22, 2025

Jerry Jones says he is not the decision-maker regarding who the Dallas Cowboys select with the No. 12 pick of the 2025 NFL draft.

"I do not make the decision about that player. That's been made cumulatively... I'm a tiebreaker, maybe," Jones said during Tuesday's pre-draft press conference.

Jones added that the Cowboys have not yet finalized their draft board. The Cowboys have 10 picks in this week's draft, including the No. 12, No. 44 and No. 76 selections.

The Cowboys owner said part of the reason the board has not yet been finalized is because of the different members of the Dallas front office, including head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who have provided input regarding the Cowboys' draft process.

"That should be very helpful to us, not just because these guys are gonna be coaching them, because you're trying to get the right kind of player out there," Jones said Tuesday. "There's never been, everโ€” since I've owned this teamโ€” a draft pick that I didn't, in any way, really get the input."

Jones will likely not be the only owner influencing his team's decision-making this weekend in Green Bay. One NFL head coach recently said they believe at least 13 NFL owners are "heavily" involved with their team's draft process, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said last week in an appearance on 105.3 The Fan that he couldn't see Dallas trading up from No. 12 "but could see a situation where we move down."

The Cowboys are no strangers to making moves on Day 1 of the draft. Last year, Dallas traded back to No. 29 by handing No. 24 to the Detroit Lions. The Lions drafted cornerback Terrion Arnold, while the Cowboys used the return to select offensive tackle Tyler Guyton and offensive guard Cooper Beebe.

Round 1 of the 2025 NFL draft begins Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
