Hines in at Saftey For Russell?

Emmett ShafferSep 10, 2009

News out of Columbus yesterday points to SS/LB Jermale Hines to get playing time at safety over Senior Anderson Russell.

In an interview yesterday Jim Heacock stated that Hines and Russell were sharing reps in practice this week. While he stopped short of saying Hines would start, he did state that Russell was caught out of position against Navy and that they had discussed it. He did state that both would see playing time at the spot. My guess is that when OSU is in the Nickel Russell will be at FS and Hines will be the Nickel back.

If you read my last post you know that I was calling for Russell to be replaced. I guess Christmas came early. Four three seasons I have watched this talented safety allow receivers to get behind him. He was out of position against USC and Texas last season and way out of position against LSU in 2007.

Hines will be a good replacement, however I really liked the look of having him on the field at the Star spot (DB/LB). This could hurt the defense overall in this weeks upcoming game against the boys from Troy, Spitler does not have the speed to close on running backs like Mcknight. Who could we fill the out side LB spot with???

My guess for the starters this weekend at DB AND LB
