Lions' Rod Wood Trolls Packers Over Hosting NFL Draft, 3rd-Place Finish in 2024

The Detroit Lions currently run things in the NFC North, and team president Rod Wood didn't miss a chance to remind attendees as much at the Detroit Economic Club's annual NFL draft luncheon Monday.

"Trying to get the NFL to consider bringing it back (to Detroit) because I don't think they'll ever top it," Wood said of the upcoming draft, per Marlowe Alter of the Detroit Free Press. "There's no way Green Bay will come close. They'll finish second or as I said to Brad (Galli), they'll finish third like they did last year."

Detroit hosted the draft last year before going on to win the NFC North, while the 2025 edition will be in Green Bay. Green Bay is, of course, home of the Packers, who are coming off a third-place finish in the division.

The Lions also defeated the Packers in both of their head-to-head matchups last season.

Green Bay fans will surely point to their four Super Bowl rings compared to Detroit's zero and the fact both teams lost their first playoff game a season ago. So did the Minnesota Vikings, who finished in third place in the division.

But the Lions are coming off two straight division crowns and went to the NFC Championship Game during the 2023 campaign. The majority of their core is back for 2025, and they will be kings of the division until another team steals back the crown.

Until they do, the victors will enjoy the spoils.

And those spoils included a well-timed jab on Monday from Detroit's team president.
