NFL OC Says Cam Skattebo Is 'A Lot Like' Ashton Jeanty But Ball Security a Concern
Cam Skattebo is getting some high praise ahead of the NFL draft, but there is one glaring concern among scouts.
Per The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, one NFL offensive coordinator compared the Arizona State running back to Boise State's Ashton Jeanty, but pointed to ball security as a key concern.
“I like him. He’s got unbelievable contact balance, low to the ground," the offensive coordinator said. "He’s a lot like Jeanty. But I do worry about his ball security. I think he had 10 fumbles (in the past three years), which is really high.”

Projecting NFL Teams Most Likely to Tank for 2027 📉
Skattebo, who began his career at Sacramento State before spending the last two years with the Sun Devils, rushed for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns last season. His rushing yards total was the second-most in college football, only behind Jeanty's. Skattebo also picked up 605 yards and three touchdowns through the air. He had the most receiving yards among running backs in Division I in 2024.
While the do-it-all running back's numbers were some of the most impressive in college football last year, ball-security issues could be enough for teams to stay away from him in this year's draft.
Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department considers Skattebo the 12th-best running back in this year's draft class.
