Schefter Predicts Speculation of Deion Sanders Replacing HC of Team Drafting Shedeur
When Shedeur Sanders hears his name announced at the NFL draft on Thursday or Friday, it will begin a new era for the young quarterback, and namely, one where he won't have his father, Deion Sanders, serving as his head coach.
But he'll also bring speculation of a future reunion with his father to his new city.
As ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote Monday, "Short of Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin, any other coach who drafts Sanders better be comfortable with his standing within the organization. Because if that team struggles and the fan base is calling for a coaching change, speculation will start to swirl about Sanders' father taking over. Though Deion recently finalized a five-year, $54M contract extension, his buyout is not overly restrictive. It starts at $12 million if he leaves before Dec. 31, 2025, then drops to $10 million if he leaves in 2026, $6 million in 2027, $4 million in 2028 and $3 million in 2029."

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
There aren't many prospects who bring the level of media attention to the table that accompanies Sanders. In some ways, that is a positive—the added scrutiny of the NFL level won't be anything new to the young quarterback.
But a coaching staff and front office facing the potential of unrelenting rumors about reuniting the quarterback with his father also could grow wearisome and could lead to people feeling threatened within the organization, especially if the team struggles. Drafting Sanders isn't the simplest of propositions.
