Shedeur Sanders Compared to Daniel Jones by Colorado Coach, Ex-Giants HC Pat Shurmur

Colorado Buffaloes offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur sees some similarities between Shedeur Sanders and another quarterback prospect he coached in his past job with the New York Giants.

Shurmur said that Sanders is reminiscent of former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, who was selected by the team with the sixth pick in the 2019 NFL Draft when Shurmur was the team's head coach.

"I think they’re very similar prospects, from a player and a person," Shurmur said, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post "I think they’re both wonderful human beings, they’re both highly accomplished, talented college players that have a chance to make an impact in the NFL, so there’s a lot of similarities between Daniel Jones and Shedeur Sanders."

Jones was the Giants' quarterback from 2019-2024 and had some success but did not live up to his billing as a top-10 NFL Draft pick. His best season came in 2022, when he threw for 3,205 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions while adding 708 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.

Sanders did not flash Jones' dual-threat ability in college, as he had negative rushing yards in his two seasons as the Buffaloes starting quarterback. He did have significant success through the air, as he threw for 4,134 yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2024.

Sanders is rated as the No. 2 quarterback and the No. 23 overall player in the 2025 NFL Draft by Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department. He could be an option for the Giants, who hold the No. 3 pick in the draft and could be in the market for a young quarterback.
