Describing Every Team's Nightmare 2025 NFL Draft in 1 Sentence

Brad GagnonApr 18, 2025

We're one week away from Round 1 of the 2025 NFL draft, so predictions, hypotheticals and analysis are at a fever pitch.

With that in mind, let's summarize the worst-case scenarios for each team in quick-hitter fashion.

Here is one draft nightmare for each NFL team.

Buffalo Bills: The Patriots and Jets land immediate impact players with top-seven picks and a first-round run on defensive standouts leaves none for them in the No. 30 spot.

Miami Dolphins: The Patriots and Jets land immediate impact players with top-seven picks and primo linemen and safeties like Armand Membou, Kelvin Banks and Malaki Starks all go in the top 12.

New England Patriots: Something goes haywire with Cam Ward and the Titans, and Travis Hunter, Will Campbell and Abdul Carter are all off the board when the Patriots are on the clock.

New York Jets: Will Campbell and Armand Membou both go off the board in the top six, leaving them with an offensive tackle void.

Baltimore Ravens: The division-rival Browns land their next franchise quarterback at the top of the draft and no clear first-round defenders or offensive linemen fall to them in the No. 27 spot.

Cincinnati Bengals: The division-rival Browns land their next franchise quarterback at the top of the draft and primo edges Mike Green, Mykel Williams, Shemar Stewart, Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. all go off the board in the top half of Round 1.

Cleveland Browns: In classic Browns fashion, they get desperate, take Shedeur Sanders in the No. 2 spot and he predictably goes bust.

Pittsburgh Steelers: The division-rival Browns land their next franchise quarterback at the top of the draft and both Sanders and Jaxson Dart are picked before they’re on the clock, forcing them to go all in on a washed Aaron Rodgers.

Houston Texans: The Titans strike gold with Cam Ward at the top and the Jaguars and also land an immediate impact player in the top five, while a run on offensive linemen leaves them without first-round-caliber tackle options in the No. 25 spot.

Indianapolis Colts: The Titans strike gold with Cam Ward at the top and the Jaguars and also land an immediate impact player in the top five, but that’s as close to “nightmare” as it can really come for a team in a good spot to draft the best player available in the middle of Round 1.

Jacksonville Jaguars: The Titans nail the Ward pick and prime Jags target Mason Graham gets snatched up in the top four as well.

Tennessee Titans: Cam Ward becomes a bust, or they do something else with the top pick and Ward becomes a star.

Denver Broncos: All of the prime targets to bolster the skill positions around Bo Nix (Ashton Jeanty, Tetairoa McMillan, Colston Loveland, Tyler Warren, Omarion Hampton, Matthew Golden and Emeka Egbuka) are off the board when they’re on the clock in the No. 20 spot.

Kansas City Chiefs: Key late-first-round trench targets Kenneth Grant, Derrick Harmon, Josh Conerly Jr., Josh Simmons and Walter Nolen are all off the board when they’re up in the No. 31 spot.

Las Vegas Raiders: They use a top-10 pick on a running back.

Los Angeles Chargers: All of the prime targets to bolster the skill positions around Justin Herbert (Ashton Jeanty, Tetairoa McMillan, Colston Loveland, Tyler Warren, Omarion Hampton, Matthew Golden and Emeka Egbuka) are off the board when they’re on the clock in the No. 22 spot.

Dallas Cowboys: Ashton Jeanty and Tetairoa McMillan are both gone when they pick 12th overall, leaving them without an obvious skill-position candidate to support Dak Prescott from the get-go.

New York Giants: They get desperate, take Shedeur Sanders in the No. 3 spot and he predictably goes bust.

Philadelphia Eagles: The Giants land the best player in the draft (Travis Hunter), the Cowboys land the best receiver (McMillan) and no prime defenders remain on the board when they’re on the clock with the last pick of Round 1.

Washington Commanders: The Giants land the best player in the draft (Hunter), the Cowboys land the best receiver (McMillan) and no first-round-caliber pass-rushers remain on the board when they pick 29th overall.

Chicago Bears: Will Campbell and Armand Membou both go off the board in the top nine, leaving them with an offensive tackle void and possibly causing them to use a top-10 pick on a running back.

Detroit Lions: First-round-caliber edge prospects Mike Green, Mykel Williams, Shemar Stewart, Jalon Walker, James Pearce Jr., Nic Scourton and Donovan Ezeiruaku are all off the board when it’s their turn in the No. 28 spot.

Green Bay Packers: A team that should go best player available at edge, receiver or cornerback hits the clock 23rd overall with Green, Stewart, Williams, Walker, Pearce, Matthew Golden, Emeka Egbuka, Jahdae Barron and Benjamin Morris all gone, as unlikely as that is.

Minnesota Vikings: A team with just four total draft picks misses out on a first-round-caliber corner like Barron or Morrison and can’t get a good offer to drop back for more selections.

Atlanta Falcons: Ideal edges Mike Green, Mykel Williams, Shemar Stewart, Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. all go off the board before they select 15th overall.

Carolina Panthers: An early run on defensive players like Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, Mason Graham, Jalon Walker, Malaki Starks and Will Johnson leaves a team in desperate need of a high-impact defender without any primo options on that side of the ball in the No. 8 spot.

New Orleans Saints: They draft Shedeur Sanders to replace Derek Carr and all of the worst fears many analysts have come true.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: As with Atlanta, edges Green, Williams, Stewart, Walker, Pearce and Donovan Ezeiruaku all go off the board before they select 19th overall. Maybe toss in Jihaad Campbell too because he’d be a fine fit for Tampa. It’s far-fetched but possible.

Arizona Cardinals: It’s actually hard to nail down a nightmare for a team that could use a boost at a wide variety of positions and will almost certainly have a few solid options in the middle of Round 1, but a huge run on trench players would be far from ideal for Arizona unless it leads to someone like Tetairoa McMillan popping through on the offensive side of the ball.

Los Angeles Rams: No obvious first-round defenders drop to them at 26 and they don’t get any worthwhile offers to drop down and make up for the fact they currently lack a second-round pick.

San Francisco 49ers: A top 10 in which the cream of the crop goes off the board in the offensive and defensive trenches, which is where the 49ers are hurting most.

Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks are in a good spot with a variety of fine scenarios in play, but those in which the 49ers (picking 11th) and Cardinals (picking 16th) steal players high on their draft board would constitute somewhat of a nightmare.
