Travis Hunter Compared to Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani by Browns GM Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

Doric SamApr 17, 2025

Colorado star Travis Hunter's two-way skills make him the most interesting prospect in the 2025 NFL draft, and Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said he feels Hunter is reminiscent of a three-time MVP MLB star.

"It’s a little bit like [Shohei] Ohtani," Berry told reporters on Thursday. "Pitcher or hitter, he’s an outstanding player. You get a unicorn if you use him both ways."

If prognosticators are correct and the Tennessee Titans select Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick, the Browns will be in prime position to land Hunter at No. 2. In its latest mock draft, B/R's NFL Scouting Department predicted that Cleveland would do just that.

While many are wondering whether Hunter should primarily play wide receiver or cornerback in the NFL, Berry said he sees him as a wide receiver first, but wouldn't limit him to a single position.

"What he would attempt to do hasn't been done in our league, but we wouldn't put a cap on what he could do…be smart about where you start him out," Berry told reporters.

That approach would certainly appease Hunter, who recently said he'd rather quit playing football than commit to one side of the ball. Berry told reporters that those comments didn't impact his evaluation, adding that he's "great" at both positions.

Hunter won the 2024 Heisman Trophy after recording 92 catches for 1,258 yards and 16 touchdowns plus a rushing touchdown on offense while adding 36 total tackles, 11 passes defended, four interceptions and a forced fumble on defense. If Cleveland lands him with the No. 2 pick in next week's draft, he will inject new energy into a fanbase that is starving for some positivity after a disappointing 2024 campaign.
