Jalen Hurts, Simone Biles Among TIME's 100 Most Influential People of 2025

Doric SamApr 16, 2025

Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts is still riding the high of winning Super Bowl LIX, and he added another unique distinction to his resume this offseason.

Hurts headlined the list of athletes included in TIME's 100 Most Influential People of 2025. He was joined by legendary gymnast Simone Biles, tennis icon Serena Williams and WNBA superstars Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty and Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx.

Hurts was included in the "Icons" section, while Williams and Biles were listed in the "Titans" section and Stewart and Collier were featured in the "Pioneers" section.

Baseball Hall of Famer and New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter handled the write-up for Hurts, praising his resilience after losing the Super Bowl in the 2022 season and coming back to earn his first championship this year.

"We connected shortly after, and the only thing he asked about was insight on going back and winning again," Jeter wrote. "Sometimes people win, then exhale. Jalen is not exhaling. Heโ€™s embracing the next challenge. Win or lose, Jalenโ€™s resilience and determination offer all of us something to admire."

Biles was praised by fellow Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman for being "a gemโ€”one of a kind, forged by relentless hard work and polished by her own determination. She shines with a brilliance that sets her apart." The 28-year-old took home three Olympic gold medals at the Paris Games last summer and is the most decorated American gymnast ever, but her impact in addressing mental health for athletes is perhaps even greater.

Allyson Felix, a seven-time Olympic gold medalist in track and field, paid homage to Williams for her continued influence even after retiring from tennis.

"Even as sheโ€™s moved away from professional tennis, Serena continues to be impactful," Felix wrote. "Whether itโ€™s through her venture-capital fund that invests in companies founded by women and people of color, or joining the ownership group of the Toronto Tempo, a WNBA expansion team, or dancing during halftime at the Super Bowl, she continues to show that we, as athletes, are so far from one-dimensional."

Stewart and Collier battled in an epic 2024 WNBA Finals series that saw the Liberty defeat the Lynx in five games, but it was their work off the court that drew the admiration of World Cup and Olympic champion soccer player Alex Morgan, who is an investor in the upstart Unrivaled 3-on-3 women's basketball league that Stewart and Collier co-founded together.

"Their ability to continue to shine in the WNBAโ€”in fact, Phee and Stewie faced off in the 2024 finalsโ€”while building the next big thing blows me away," Morgan wrote. "The dynamic duo stuck their necks out there to give players a chance to make money in the U.S. in the offseason, and not have to move their families across the world."
