NFL GM Reportedly Says 2025 Draft Has 6 'Blue-Chip RBs' amid Ashton Jeanty Buzz
One NFL general manager believes that the 2025 NFL draft has six blue-chip running back prospects, per ESPN's Adam Schefter on his podcast (17-minute mark).
"In this particular draft, I had one general manager tell me that there were, in his mind six quote-unquote "blue chip running backs" in this draft," Schefter began.

"Now we're not gonna see six running backs go in the first round of the draft. That not gonna happen, but you are gonna see a lot of them essentially moving forward here and a lot of great running back talent. That is the one position in my mind that shines in this draft."
That report comes amid news on Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who looks primed to be a top-10 pick. ESPN's Matt Miller had this to say on April 10 regarding Jeanty's potential landing spot.
“The Bears love Ashton Jeanty, according to scouts around the league who’ve observed the team’s activity this offseason,” Miller wrote (h/t Aidan Davis of Blogging the Boys). “So the Boise State running back could be the pick at No. 10 ... if he’s still around.”
The latest B/R NFL Scouting Department big board notably has seven running backs in the top 71, with Jeanty leading the way at No. 6 overall. Omarion Hampton, Kaleb Johnson, Dylan Sampson, Damien Martinez, Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson are also in the mix there, with Hampton (No. 17) looking like a clear first-rounder and Johnson (No. 39) potentially being one as well.
Although the running back position has been devalued over the years, it's clear a great one can still galvanize a team. Saquon Barkley, for example, was a tremendous addition to the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles last season.
Given the potential of his year's class, perhaps the next great running back (or running backs) are available this season. For now, we await to see where they land beginning April 24, when the draft begins from Green Bay.
