NFL Insiders Say Shedeur Sanders Being Drafted Day 1 Would Mean an Owner Got Involved

Timothy RappApr 14, 2025

Shedeur Sanders continues to feel like a player who will drop down the board at the upcoming NFL draft, perhaps even into the second day.

As Albert Breer of SI.com reported Monday: "I've had more than one person say to me that if Sanders goes in the first round, it'll be because an owner got involved. That, of course, is a bit of a guess from a few guys who are clued into how Sanders is viewed. But it’s also a bit of a window into the way evaluators are looking at the Colorado star."

He added that, "What I keep hearing—and this has nothing to do with anyone having some personal issue with Sanders, or looking for him to fall in the draft so they can draft him—is that he isn't a great athlete on tape, doesn't have exceptional arm talent, and too often does things that simply won't translate to the NFL game."

No player has divided opinion in the pre-draft process quite like Sanders. The B/R NFL Scouting Department has him ranked No. 23 on its latest big board and projected him to be selected No. 9 overall to the New Orleans Saints in its latest mock draft, but reports of a potential slide continue to emerge.
