For the first time in his career, Rory McIlroy has won the Masters.

McIlroy earned his first green jacket following a playoff matchup with Justin Rose at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday, completing a career grand slam and receiving the $4.2 million first-place prize.

McIlroy bounced back from a rough opening round on Thursday in which he finished with a 72 that included multiple double bogeys. He shot an impressive six-under 66 on both Friday and Saturday, taking a two-shot lead entering Round 4.

The Northern Irishman dealt with some inconsistency throughout Sunday's action, opening up with a double bogey on his first hole.

McIlroy eventually responded with three birdies across his next eight holes, although he ran into some trouble on the back nine. He started with another birdie on hole No. 10 before recording two bogeys and another double bogey from No. 11 through No. 14.

McIlroy held a four-stroke lead over Rose prior to his late struggles, but still had a chance to secure his first Masters win on No. 18. A potential tournament-winning putt just missed after his shot from the fairway hit the bunker, though.

McIlroy eventually emerged victorious in the one-hole playoff with a birdie.

He became the sixth golfer to ever complete a career Grand Slam and the first since Tiger Woods accomplished the feat in 2000.

In the end, McIlroy took home a green jacket and added to his career earnings on Sunday.
