Mark DeRosa, Andy Pettitte and Full USA Coaching Staff Revealed for 2026 WBC
Team USA's coaching staff for the 2026 World Baseball Classic was unveiled on Friday.
Mark DeRosa will return as the United States' manager after operating in the same role during the 2023 WBC, per USA Baseball.
DeRosa's staff includes five-time World Series champion Andy Pettitte as pitching coach, while seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday will serve as hitting coach. Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel is expected to operate in the same role and George Lombard of the Detroit Tigers will be the team's first base coach.
Skip Schumaker, Fredi González, David Ross, Brian McCann and Michael Young are also part of Team USA's coaching group.
“I’d like to welcome David Ross, Skip Schumaker, Matt Holliday, George Lombard, Fredi González, and returning coaches Michael Young, Brian McCann, Andy Pettitte, and Dino Ebel to the team,” Team USA general manager Michael Hill said, via USA Baseball. “Together, the baseball knowledge and experience of this group of men is unmatched and I’m looking forward to working with each of them to bring a WBC championship back to the USA.”
The United States is attempting to emerge victorious after narrowly falling to Team Japan in the final of the 2023 tournament. The Americans won the 2017 edition.
DeRosa played for eight teams during his 16-year MLB career from 1998 through 2013, suiting up for the U.S. squad in the 2009 WBC. He hadn't served as a manager at any level prior to the 2023 tournament, but he'll be back in the dugout for Team USA.
Pettitte was also a member of the 2023 WBC coaching staff for the United States. He made three All-Star appearances during his pitching career, owning a 3.85 ERA throughout his 18 years in the majors. His 19 postseason wins are the most in MLB history.
As for Holliday, he'll be making his first appearance as a WBC coach. He earned seven All-Star selections throughout his MLB tenure, winning a World Series title with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.
Holliday was previously a member of Team USA in the 2006 WBC.
The 2026 WBC roster will be finalized once the tournament draws closer. The United States is a member of Pool B in the upcoming event along with Brazil, Great Britain, Italy, and Mexico.
Team USA will begin its quest to capture a second WBC title in March 2026.
