Former NFL CB Vontae Davis' Cause of Death Ruled Undetermined, Medical Examiner Says
The Broward County (Florida) medical examiner has ruled the cause death of former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis as "undetermined," per multiple reports.
"Due to the totality of the circumstances, including inconsistencies between the scene and the findings at autopsy, the cause and manner of death in this case is best classified as undetermined," an autopsy report reads, per ESPN's Stephen Holder.
Davis died at the age of 35 on April 1, 2024, at his home in Southwest Ranches, Florida, per Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post. Holder noted that a personal assistant found Davis unresponsive in his home gym.

NFL draft trade ideas for every pick
Last summer, Davis' brother, former NFL tight end Vernon Davis, spoke with podcast host Cheryl Burke and said the cause of death may have been due to "something he put in his body," per Habib.
“I’m still unaware of what exactly happened because the reports didn’t come out yet,” Davis said. “But you know there was no foul play, so it was probably due to something he put in his body.”
Per Holder, the toxicology report "found the presence of several substances, including amphetamines/methamphetamines."
Per Holder, Davis also suffered numerous "blunt force injuries," including a 1.5-inch red abrasion near his right eye, but the report did not state how he suffered the ailments.
Davis played for the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills over a 10-year career. Miami selected the former University of Illinois star with the 25th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He also made back-to-back Pro Bowls for the Colts in 2014 and 2015.
For his career, Davis played 121 games (113 starts), amassing 395 tackles (344 solo), 97 pass breakups and 22 interceptions.
