Past winners of the Masters have traditionally gotten off to strong starts in the opening round.
This includes Scheffler, who sat at No. 2 and was just one stroke behind the lead following the first round of the 2024 Masters.
He's tied with Aberg and Corey Conners after the opening round the 2025 tournament, as all three players carded a four-under 68.
Scheffler didn't make many mistakes at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday, ending his first round without a bogey. The No. 1 player in the World Golf Ranking also recorded four birdies.
As for Rose, he was nearly flawless outside of a bogey on hole No. 18. The 44-year-old finished with birdies on each of his first three holes and ended the day with eight total.
Rose acknowledged that his play has been inconsistent heading into the Masters, but he's feeling good as he attempts to capture the first green jacket of his career.
“When I have been playing well, I feel like I have been competing at a high level,” Rose said, per Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press. “My consistency maybe has not been as high this year. But my good is good again. So I’m excited about that.”
Rose wrapped up an impressive start to the Masters, but Scheffler is still favored to win the tournament heading into the second round.
