Emeka Egbuka Is 'Most Underrated Offensive Player' in 2025 NFL Draft, CFB Coach Says

Scott PolacekApr 9, 2025

To hear one college football coach tell it, NFL teams shouldn't "overthink it" when it comes to the wide receiver position and simply select Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka.

"Egbuka might be the most underrated offensive player in the draft right now," a current Big Ten coach said in a Wednesday report from Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports. "He's smart as s--t. In '12' personnel, he went outside, too. When you're evaluating him, you should be evaluating everything he does. Mid-to-high 4.4's (40), straight 'A' student, the best interview. Don't overthink it."

That coach also compared the Ohio State product to Amon-Ra St. Brown, which is sure to turn some heads considering the Detroit Lions star is coming off back-to-back First-Team All-Pro seasons as one of the top playmakers in the league.

Schultz highlighted Ebuka's versatility to play in the slot or on the outside, as well as his "smooth releases, sharp footwork and an advanced feel for route running" that help him find openings against zones and separate in man-to-man coverage.

B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked him as the third-best wide receiver in the 2025 draft on its latest big board behind Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan and Texas' Matthew Golden. Yet, he is also listed as the best slot receiver, the most pro-ready receiver and the best route-runner, with McMillan earning best hands and Golden securing best speed.

That Egbuka was the best in three of the five categories and still listed as the third-best wide receiver underscores the notion he is underrated, especially after such a productive collegiate career.

He finished as Ohio State's all-time leader with 2,858 receiving yards even though he was at times overshadowed by the likes of Jeremiah Smith, Marvin Harrison Jr., Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson during his career.

That Egbuka was able to remain so productive despite never being the No. 1 option in the aerial attack bodes well for his NFL outlook, as he can take advantage of the spacing created by the attention his teammates receive.

He would surely be asked to do just that if he landed with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on the Philadelphia Eagles, which is what B/R's NFL Scouting Department projected for the No. 32 overall pick in its most recent mock draft.

Landing who some see as the "most underrated offensive player in the draft" with the final pick of the first round would be quite the steal for the reigning Super Bowl champions.
