Travis Hunter Says He Can Play Every Snap in NFL 'If They Give Me the Chance'

Scott PolacekApr 7, 2025

To hear Travis Hunter tell it, the only thing that will prevent him from playing both sides of the ball in the NFL is the team that drafts him not letting him do so.

"All of them if they give me the chance and the opportunity to do it," he said during a Monday appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio when asked how many snaps he can play in an NFL game.

He also said he plans on playing "both" wide receiver and cornerback and will have the time and ability to do so by dedicating all his hours he isn't sleeping to football.

While it remains to be seen whether Hunter will play both sides of the ball in the NFL, he thrived in that role during his collegiate career at Colorado. All he did this past season was take home the Heisman Trophy as the Buffaloes' leading wide receiver on offense and their top cornerback on defense.

It will be a tricky situation for the team that drafts him to navigate.

On the one hand, he becomes a far more valuable player if he can occupy two positions as one person taking a roster spot. That gives the front office more flexibility in building the roster elsewhere and someone who can impact the outcome of games in multiple ways.

On the other hand, playing on both sides of the ball in the NFL will make him more susceptible to injury and, perhaps, limit the ceiling he could reach if he just focused all his time and energy on excelling at one position.

The team that drafts him could choose to use him primarily as a cornerback while working him into the offense in special packages in an effort to decrease injury risk and still get the benefit of his overall skill set.

That team will be the New York Giants at No. 3 overall if the latest mock draft from B/R's NFL Scouting Department comes to fruition.

New York has a number of holes to fill after a 3-14 record in 2024, so Hunter is surely appealing as someone who could help address weaknesses on both sides of the ball.
