Florida Players Call Walter Clayton Jr. 'special' After Final Four Win vs. Auburn

Taylyn Hadley Apr 5, 2025

After Florida's Walter Clayton Jr. scored 34 points in the team’s Final Four victory over overall No. 1 seed Auburn, his teammates had one word for him — special.

"Special... He's special," senior Will Richard said.

Thomas Haugh and Alijah Martin both echoed the sentiment in agreement as all four of them laughed.

"He's poised, calm and collected, confident in himself," Richard continued. "We have that confidence in him. We see him practice, see his work ethic. We're glad everybody else is getting to see him do it in a game."

In addition to his 34 points, Clayton Jr. added four rebounds and two assists while shooting 11-of-18 from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range in the Florida Gators’ 79-73 victory to advance to the championship.

Richard added seven points and three steals, Haugh had 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Marin added 17 points.

Senior guard Clayton Jr. averaged 18.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 44.6 percent from the field during the regular season.

He has stepped up in the postseason, averaging 22.3 points per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 45.2 percent from three-point range, though he admitted he hasn’t had time to reflect on the past few weeks.

"I guess you could say I haven't really had time to reflect on what I've been doing," Carter Jr. told reporters. "I've just been focused on us winning game, winning games with these guys. I haven't taken the time to reflect back on the season yet."

Clayton Jr. and the Gators will play in the championship game on Monday in San Antonio.
