Golfer Ryan McCormick Tapes Mouth Shut in Viral Video to 'Shut Myself Up' on Course

In an effort to control his anger, golfer Ryan McCormick resorted to taping his mouth shut on Friday while competing in the second round of the Korn Ferry Tour's Club Car Championship.

"Been having not-so-fun times this year on the golf course," McCormick explained, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "Pretty angry and mad. So I figured I've tried a lot of things, and I just figured I'd shut myself up. So I put tape over my mouth."

The 33-year-old revealed that he also utilized the unusual strategy in order to create a positive experience for his playing partners.

"I was hoping maybe that it would help me," McCormick said, via ESPN. "Can't say that it did or didn't. It certainly makes you breathe. I felt like Bane, like Batman, muzzle myself. I mean, I'm not like proud. I don't want to create an experience for my playing partners that's not fair. And, you know, it's not fair to me either or other people. Having a tough time, and that was my solution today."

McCormick opened with a one-over 73 in the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club in Savannah, Georgia, carding a second-round 72 and falling below the projected cut line on Friday.

He spent the 2024 season on the PGA Tour but was eventually relegated to the Korn Ferry Tour after ranking No. 161 on the 2024 FedExCup Fall standings.

McCormick has struggled since returning to the Korn Ferry Tour, sitting at No. 126 in the tour points list before the Club Car Championship.

As he attempts to control his emotions on the course moving forward, McCormick seems to be open to using the uncommon approach again.
