Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Reportedly Could Face Chargers for Week 1 NFL Game in Brazil
One year after the Philadelphia Eagles opened their quest to win a Super Bowl in Brazil, the Kansas City Chiefs could follow the same path in 2025.
Per The Athletic's Nate Taylor and Daniel Popper, the Chiefs are considered the top choice by the NFL to face the Los Angeles Chargers at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo on Sept. 5.
While the full release of the 2025 schedule is still more than a month away based on recent precedent, details are slowly starting to trickle out.

The NFL announced on Tuesday this year will feature a tripleheader on Christmas Day, with Netflix airing the first two games and Amazon Prime getting the primetime matchup.
Netflix's first two NFL game broadcasts were on Christmas Day last season. The Chiefs defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the opener, followed by the Baltimore Ravens beating the Houston Texans.
The Athletic's report noted the Chiefs are expected to be featured in one of the Christmas matchups again. It would mark their third straight game on Dec. 25.
Taylor and Popper added that neither the Chiefs nor Chargers are opposed to the idea of starting their season against each other. The NFL has tended to avoid divisional matchups for their international series games.
The last international game featuring two divisional opponents featured the Ravens and Tennessee Titans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in October 2023. The Chiefs and Chargers did play at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City during the 2019 season.
Kansas City has won seven straight games against its AFC West rival dating back to the 2021 season. Both of their matchups last season were decided by one possession, including a 19-17 victory on Matthew Wright's game-winning field goal as time expired in Week 14.
The NFL announced in February that it was returning to Brazil to host a regular-season game for the second consecutive year, with the Chargers serving as the designated home team.
Last year's matchup in Brazil saw the Eagles defeat the Green Bay Packers, 34-29. The league is planning to play seven regular-season games outside of the United States in 2025.
The Eagles, as the defending Super Bowl champs, will host the season opener on Sept. 4 against an opponent still to be determined. The Chargers' game in Brazil will take place the next day, followed by the normal Week 1 slate to be played on Sept. 7 and Monday Night Football on Sept. 8.
