Dallas Cowboys Introduce Brian Schottenheimer as New Head Coach

Jerry Jones Not Concerned About Injuries If Cowboys Play Flag Football at Olympics

Andrew PetersApr 1, 2025

Flag football is coming to the Olympics in 2028, and a number of NFL players will likely participate in the event.

Some coaches and team owners might take issue with their players participating in flag football because of injuries, but Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he doesn't share that concern.

"That wouldnโ€™t be an issue for me," he said, per the Washington Post's Mark Maske. "Timing, availability, conflicts, that type of thing. But I wouldnโ€™t be as concerned about the injury, not with flag.โ€

Los Angeles 2028 is still a few years away, but several players have already expressed interest in participating in Olympic flag football.

Dallas' own Micah Parsons even said he plans to "take a break from football to prepare for the Olympics," though he didn't clarify whether he wants to participate in flag football or another event.

While Jones isn't concerned about injuries in the Olympics, he might take issue with Parsons taking time off to participate if he's still with the Cowboys by then.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evansย saidย he wants to play flag football at the Olympics if he's retired by 2028. Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hillย saidย NFL players need to team up and "bring one home" in 2028.

NFL Network'sย Tom Pelisseroย reported Tuesday that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has "heard from a lot of NFL players about playing in the 2028 Olympics" and he "expects to resolve discussions with clubs and union in" the next 60 days.

Even if the NFL allows players to participate in the Olympics, those who play flag football professionally seem ready to compete for a spot on Team USA.

Team USA quarterback Darrell "Housh" Doucetteย called it "disrespectful"ย that NFL players "automatically assume" they can be on the Olympic team "because of the person that they are."

It's unclear how the United States' flag football team will be determined, but it's fair to assume a handful of NFL players will be on the roster.
